A COUPLE who set up an online small business community is turning it into a one day live event.
Emily and Alan Braithwaite worked together to build two companies using their talent for online content before starting the Yellow Tuxedo agency.
You run the Digital Circus, a training and networking community whose members range from a sock company to music teachers. The spin-off is Digital Circus Live, a “Celebration of Digital Visibility, Business Growth and Opportunity” on Tuesday May 18th.
Emily said, “We wanted to have a party a year later – in an ideal world, in a physical space in a big top. I would have loved to bring some real circus items with me. ”
Instead, the event will use the Hopin app, with which attendees can come and go in lectures and workshops like in a real conference – and take part in networking sessions.
“It’s for anyone who wants to come out and celebrate that they already have hands-on skills,” said Emily.
The couple, who are part of the Dorset-based You Are the Media community, have set up keynote speakers, including Mark Masters, Founder of You Are the Media. There will be workshops offering expertise in audience education, podcasting, photography, branding, live steaming, sales and more.
Live events can’t go back, says You Are the Media founder
Alan said, “It’s like going to the BIC in Bournemouth. You walk through the door, you are given a schedule, you are given keynote speakers, workshop hosts, exhibition booths and a networking area, and you choose where to go.
“If you want to take to the streets for some sunshine, you do.
“It’s really back in control of what you want to do instead of nine hours of zoom. After a year we are getting ready for the next step. ”
The couple previously built Baylily Bell Tents in Hampshire, rented tents for events and the Outside Bride, a platform where vendors gather for outdoor weddings.
The businesses were built using the couple’s skills in creating visual and written content and sharing it on social media.
“We have been working together in companies for 10 years. This is our third business we’ve worked together on, and we’ve used exactly the same principles to build each one organically, “said Emily.
“What people fail to do when creating social media and content is that the number one rule about social media is to be social, have conversations, and use the platform instead of treating them as content-driven and flattering things, to actually have meaningful conversations and build that audience. ”
Alan said, “People are going to spend a long time on amazing videos that are not optimized, that are not properly shared, that have their keywords not properly assigned, and that they post on YouTube. They get two views and die and they get very desperate – while we’re providing mediocre content, filming on our iPhone with a glittering gold background, but because we optimize it and share it properly, it ranks accordingly. ”
