Mayor Debbie Pittman invites the ward to pray for the family
The city of Aragon has lost a longtime resident who made a lasting impact on the community, and Mayor Debbie Pittman issued a statement today urging the community to keep his family in thoughts and prayers.
Today the funeral service for former Mayor William Lawrence “Larry” Pittman, who died on Christmas Eve at the age of 81 years, took place. He was Mayor of Aragon from 1972 to 1983 and was Chairman of the County Commission for four years.
Just weeks before his death, Pittman and his wife Sadie recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mayor Debbie Pittman made the following statement on behalf of the city this afternoon:
“Myself and the rest of the Aragon City staff and council are all shocked and saddened by the news of former Mayor Pittman’s death over the holidays. Our thoughts and prayers go with his dear wife Sadie and the rest of his family and friends during their time of grief. Mayor Pittman has been a great servant to our community whose influence in Aragon will be felt for generations to come. We ask the citizens of our city to pray for his family during this time. ”
The flag on the town hall was also hoisted at half mast today.
The memorial service for the former Mayor, County Commissioner and Principal of Rockmart High was held at the Freeman Harris Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. today.
