Cook it yourself: minced meat bread muffins – newspaper

We are all aware of pollution, the need for recycling and reuse, proper waste management and many such things that help solve the many problems the world is facing today. We also try to be good citizens, but we are less aware of one important issue. I am talking about food waste and food loss.

From leftover food to spoiled products, tons of food are thrown away around the world every day while many people go hungry. Have you noticed how much food we leave uneaten on our plates, especially when we eat in restaurants or at weddings? Or have you ever paid attention when your mom complains about leftover food that nobody wants to eat?

We all owe it to food waste. An entire article can be written about the consequences of food waste and how to prevent it from occurring, but today my recipe is inspired by the concept of reducing food waste.

Yes, I decided to use a few leftover items in my fridge – which was absolutely good enough to eat, but no one ate as there were more tempting fresher options – and made ground beef bread muffins!

There was leftover cooked ground beef (qeema) and half a loaf of bread that had become a little crumbly, so I decided to make some delicious muffins out of it! They were so delicious! And the best part was everyone enjoyed the food that they didn’t want in their original form.

You can also use leftover chicken, vegetables, and anything for filling – the possibilities are limitless. So next time you have something left over, think about how to turn it into a tasty treat.

ingredients

• 6 slices of bread

• 6 tablespoons of cooked ground beef

• 6 teaspoons of chili garlic sauce

• 100g cheese

• 1 sprouting spring onion or 1 small onion, chopped

• Lettuce leaves

• Butter

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Grease a muffin pan with softened butter, set aside. Use a large bottle cap or round cookie cutter to cut the slices into a round shape big enough to fill a muffin hole. You can use the breadcrumbs to make breadcrumbs later.

You can either flatten the bread circles with a rolling pin to make them easier to insert into the muffin tin, or be lazy like me and just press them with your fingers and place them in each of the muffin slots. Put about a tablespoon of minced meat in each piece of bread, add chopped onions, chili-garlic sauce, a piece of lettuce and top with grated or a small slice of cheese. I used mozzarella cheese, you can use any cheese you have as well as any other filling you want.

Bake for 15 minutes or until the bread is golden brown on the bottom. Serve hot as a breakfast snack or as a snack with tea. Enjoy your meal!
