Construction is progressing on a large parcel sorting and distribution center on FedEx Ground, east of Binghamton.
A 458,000 square foot complex is being built on the site once used by Link and L-3 Communications on Industrial Park Drive in Kirkwood.

Gorick Construction demolished the old Link facility last summer. Alabama-based Cooper Construction is the general contractor for the project.
The site was sold by the Broome County Industrial Development Agency in 2017. It was sold by a private company to a buyer in Texas for $ 5.6 million last May.

FedEx Ground spokesman David Westrick said the company signed a lease on the property last year.
The basic construction work on the facility should be completed by July 1st. Westrick has announced that the complex will be operational in October.

Kirkwood City officials estimate the center will create 200 to 300 jobs. Westrick said it will start 60 to 90 days before the complex opens.
NYSEG crews were on site on Wednesday preparing to do supply work for the center.
