Groups of no more than six are allowed to meet in pubs, cinemas and restaurants in Wales from Boxing Day when new restrictions come into effect.

As part of a series of new measures announced by First Minister Mark Drakeford last week, the two-meter social distancing rules are returning in public places and workplaces.

Licensed premises only need to offer table service, face masks must be worn, and contact tracing data must be collected.

Outdoor events are limited to 50 people, 30 indoors – but the number of people attending events such as weddings, civil partnerships, funerals, and wake is determined by the size of the venue.

The rules, which come into effect at 6 a.m., are a revised version of warning level two.

The regulations bring back protection in hospitality establishments, including licensed premises, as well as in cinemas and theaters.

The Night Time Industries Association described the measures as a “devastating blow” to the industry and called on the UK government to reintroduce the holiday program.

Mr Drakeford said £ 120 million would be available for nightclubs, retail, hospitality, leisure and tourism businesses affected by the measures.

We will do everything in our power to protect the health and livelihood of the people of Wales – that means taking action early on to try to control the spread

“We are facing a very serious situation in Wales. We are facing a wave of infections from the new, fast-moving and very contagious Omicron variant, ”he said.

“We will do everything in our power to protect the health and livelihood of the people of Wales – this means taking action early on to try to control the spread.”

There are no household mix restrictions, but instructions are provided on how to limit attendance, take a lateral flow test prior to the visit, and meet outdoors if possible.

There will be a separate offense for large gatherings – more than 30 people indoors or 50 people outdoors – in private homes and gardens.

Mr Drakeford didn’t rule out further restrictions being imposed in the New Year, but said he hoped these measures would level off the infection rate.
