Here are the top stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:

  1. A story of success! “Many businesses went broke during the pandemic and many couldn’t make a comeback. Not so for the Kimpton Schofield hotel in downtown Cleveland. And Avon resident Nicole Bakker is part of the reason why, though she would be the first to tout all the staff at the hotel. During the pandemic the hotel stayed alive with “micro weddings.” And those options are still available. But now, Nicole and her team have gotten back to all the options offered before the pandemic—and then some. Bakker works in close collaboration with couples, she said, “to plan everything you and your guests will need for the entire weekend of festivities such as handling the details for the welcome party, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, morning-after brunch and more. The bride, groom and their families can stay under one roof, have access to suites to get ready and to crash after the wedding and even bring their dog to participate in photos or to attend any of the events at the Schofield “with many perks for your furry friend such as beds, and even the WAGS Program with access to veterinarians, pet walkers and more,” said Bakker.” (cleveland.com)
  2. According to cleveland.com, “Art teacher Dana Eckert at Eastview Elementary School in Avon Lake not only teaches art. She also teaches students how they can feel successful in their efforts. Eckert is in her twenty-first year of teaching at Eastview. This year, she was chosen once again to show her fourth-grade students how to design lovely holiday cards. A nice coincidence this year was Eckert’s class designed the very first district card when Superintendent Scott came to the district as a new superintendent 18 years ago. It is fitting Ecker’s class designed this year’s card since Scott will be retiring at the end of the 2022-2023 making this year his last holiday season at Avon Lake schools.” (cleveland.com)
