A KENDAL couple was invited to a surprise party in honor of their 70th wedding anniversary.
Ken Hilton (93) and Mona Hilton (92) were the center of a “wonderful” holiday at Heron Hill Care Home in Kendal, where they both live.
Staff and residents of the house, as well as the couple’s children, Keith and Lisa, helped the Nonagenarians celebrate.
The day was organized by Melani De Ramos, the manager of the nursing home, who wanted to celebrate the special occasion.
She said, “A while ago Ken and Mona’s son told me they were going to be 70 years old and I thought we had to do something special to celebrate.
“It’s not very often that people celebrate their platinum anniversary!
“It was the first time that we did something like this at home, which also made it special.
“Ken and Mona were very surprised, we told them we were going to do something to mark the day, but they hadn’t anticipated the big event we had organized.
“It was nice that her children could attend the celebrations, especially after all the restrictions we have had lately.
“We had food, drinks and a big anniversary cake. The couple read the many cards that had been sent to them, and then there was music and dancing.
“I arranged for Ken and Mona to receive a blessing from Rev. Paul Jackson to commemorate their wedding anniversary all those years ago.”
Melani said the vibe was good throughout the day and all residents commented on how much they enjoyed it.
She said, “I think the best part of the day was when Ken sang a song dedicated to Mona after they received their blessings from the Reverend. Ken always sings for us at the nursing home, but this performance for Mona was special. ”
Ken, an avid Elvis Presley fan, serenaded Mona with his portrayal of “I can’t help but fall in love with you” through the pop singer.
For the occasion, the couple’s children even brought a picture of the couple’s original wedding anniversary in 1951.
Ken Hilton said, “It was a beautiful day; we didn’t expect it at all.
“It was so nice to be able to celebrate with everyone.”
Mona said: “We had a wonderful day. The girls organized a great party and I got some nice roses.
“The celebration made us very happy, in fact we couldn’t be happier.”
