For the 1997 horror film The Devil’s Advocate, Keanu Reeves took on the role of Kevin Lomax, an arrogant defense attorney from Gainesville, Florida. Unbeaten in his career, he manages to discredit witnesses and squeeze the most unctuous defendants through the narrowest windows that offer reasonable doubt. In fact, he’s so good that a major firm from New York City, the de facto law capital of the world, sent a headhunter to Alachua County, Florida, to recruit him for the Milton Chadwick Waters firm, company head John Milton (Al Pacino ). So Kevin drags his wife, Mary Ann (Charlize Theron), and all their belongings to the City That Never Sleeps to deal with the criminal cases of the company’s business clients. In the process, he risks losing his wife and his soul, because his new boss is Satan – let alone his biological father – and the pervasive darkness of her life has left Mary Ann insane.
If Kevin Lomax is your favorite character, you’ll be driven to success – maybe a little too much. Like him, you will stop at nothing to achieve your goals, no matter the cost. Eager to please your superiors with positive results, you may neglect those around you as you strive for success and recognition.
