After learning that the United States Women’s National Team would play with European champion England in a Women’s World Cup, Alex Morgan did a legendary goal celebration by making a tea-sipping gesture. However, her gesture created a huge controversy, due to which she suffered various backlashes.

After a while, a Game of Thrones actress came in support of Alex. The actress is non-other than Sophie Turner, and she portrayed the character of Sansa Stark in GOT.

Sophie Turner was on her honeymoon when Alex’s “tea-sipping” incident from the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup caught her eyes. In addition, the actress felt so strongly about it that she chose to post a shout-out to Morgan on her social media handle.

Talking about it first, she said, “Okay, I’m on my honeymoon. I’m not really looking at my phone much, but I feel like this deserves a mention. Unfortunately, the UK women’s football team lost at the World Cup, and of course I’m incredibly sad and incredibly proud of that team. But I am so honored that we lost to such an incredible team, the US women’s football team.”

Sophie addressed, “Alex Morgan, all the haters that are saying that this was disrespectful, I’m honored that you thought of me. And all those people that are hating on you are probably sitting at home, millennials drinking kombucha. And I’m really fucking proud of you, Alex Morgan. Congratulations on your win. And that’s the motherf*cking tea.”
However, she was not the first one who came in support of Alex; Prior to her, various actors and athletes defended her from backlash.

Megan Rapinoe’s pick on this issue
Regarding this issue, Megan tweeted a note on Twitter. She wrote how celebrating victory is a part of their team’s DNA. And with due respect for England, she showcased her love for England’s fans. Everybody celebrates their nation’s success differently. Nevertheless, despite numerous criticisms, Rapinoe, Alex, and the US women’s soccer team prevailed in the FIFA Women’s Cup. While the USWNT sensation Rapinoe was extremely happy to win six golden boots.

Meanwhile, Alex’s journey has been an inspiration for many athletes. She became the first player to score a goal and an assist in a World Cup final against Japan. She even assisted in leading the USWNT to Olympic gold and victories at the 2015 and 2019 FIFA World Cups.
