The Crown has found its William and Kate – meet the cast

Netflix’s The Crown has reportedly found the actors who will be playing Prince William and Kate Middleton for its sixth season. The series focuses on the British Royal Family and started in 1947, with the wedding of the then-Princess Elizabeth. For the sixth season, the storyline will reach more modern history, including the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death.

Netflix have found the future King and Queen. Well, in a sense.

The makers of The Crown have finally cast Prince William and Duchess Catherine for the sixth season of the show.

The Crown is up to season five, with the new season expected in November this year, but it’s taken an exhaustive casting process to look ahead and find perfect candidates for William and Kate.

For Prince William, producers have decided to hire two different actors who will portray him at two different ages.

Teenager Rufus Kampa wants to take on the role of a young Prince William, aged 15.

Rufus will have the somewhat daunting task of playing William during his darkest hours. He will appear in episodes that explore how the family coped with the tragic death of William’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who died in a car crash on August 31, 1997.

Rufus is a relative newcomer to television acting but will bring a wealth of West End theater experience to the role of a grieving William. He made his West End stage debut three years ago playing the title role in Sue Townsend’s The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole 13 & 3/4s: The Musical.

The second actor cast as William is Ed McVey, who will portray the prince’s later teen and early adult years – including when he met Kate.

Deadline report that Ed’s storylines will chart William’s courtship of Kate, including how they met when both were studying Art History at the University of St Andrews in Scotland in 2001.

Newcomer Meg Bellamy has been cast as Kate, the teenager who would become the Duchess of Cambridge and future Queen.

The fifth season of The Crown could be “painful” for the Royal Family with some of the storylines expected to include Diana’s bombshell interview about her failed marriage to Prince Charles.
